A Message from New IAOS President, Derek Bennett, MD

Thank you for attending this year's IAOS Cocktail Reception held on March 14, 2019 at the Nine Fine Irishmen pub in Las Vegas.

I certainly enjoyed seeing all of you and was extremely honored to be inducted as your new IAOS President by Dr. Donald O'Malley, who has served brilliantly as your president for the past two years.

As your new President, I'd like to share a little of my background with you. I am currently a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specializing in all aspects of primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, and am Chairman of the Orthopaedic Department at Mayo General Hospital in County Mayo, Ireland, as well as an Orthopaedic

Surgeon in the Galway Clinic.I am a member and former chairman of the Irish Faculty of the AO Organization, and the only Irish Orthopaedic Surgeon on the European Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. I also serve as Vice President of the Orthopaedic section of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland and as a board member of the Irish Osteoporosis Society.

And, I'm proud to have been the Irish pioneer for rapid recovery surgery after hip and knee replacement and for introducing the program into Mayo General Hospital.

I look forward to the next two years as your IAOS President and ask for your continued support to help the Society grow.

Kilkenny Day Tour

This city is small and compact enough to explore on foot and is full of fascinating historical buildings and contemporary shops, design galleries, and restaurants.
